NOTE: For folks looking for more consolidated information, we're working to put all our updates in one place. It's probable that we'll have a table of contents along with other stuff out in the near future. For now, feel free to hop around the forums and website. We've got a lot more stuff here than anywhere else we update regularly.

As suggested by several members of our community, I've decided to create this topic to keep all our updates in one place and to document our journey together.

In August 2014, Pacific was only a roleplay and a handful of images. If you told me Pacific would expand to its current form, I don't think I would have believed you. :)

Fast forward to today, where eight months later, we have one main illustration book with a second nearly done, one supplementary book, several collaborative works, countless writings and more than thirty ship girls made... I think we're beginning to see a world coming together. A beautiful world that you too, is an integral part of.

I've always jokingly called our community the early Roman Republic minus the political intrigue. If a "triumverate" of me, Zero, and November exists, then I'd like to say that the entire Pacific team acts as our senate (well, more like a round table - nothing goes through creatively without unanimous approval) as well as a safeguard for quality. We create this not only for us, but also for you, our readers. I am truly blessed to have known and gotten interacted with such a group of wonderful people, and I hope that some time in the future we can look back to these moments and remember these moments fondly.

SPQR? :)

Morgane, July 2015.

Our first update for our own forums happens to be a 4koma, done by the talented BC, who recently joined the team.

One of the best ways to answer lore questions is through comics as such. When BC first discussed the idea with me, he wanted to experiment with formats and layout. That being said, though, many readers noticed that Ari was indeed missing her equipment, so we thought we'd play around with the idea here.

One important distinction with Ari is that when we made her, she was one of the most historically controversial ship girls we had in the book. My reliance on first-hand sources whenever possible actually kind of backfired on us here. You see, it is now (about 2000 to 2002) where we finally concluded that the USS Arizona was sank by a bomb, and not a torpedo. Yet if you look into first-hand sources, there were plenty of people contending that it was a torpedo that did her in, includng observers from the USS Vestal.

As far as ship girls go, Ari's pretty upbeat (usually). She's got an overbearing perfectionist older sister. You kinda have to be able to take it easy if someone like Pennsy's around.

As a personal note, when the comic says "historical reenactment," it is really just my personal preference. I know there are plenty of fanworks (including ours) that prefer to interpret ship girls as being actually there fighting things out in histoy. I myself don't mind this interpretation at all, but for my personal preference, I prefer historical events be examined from a "personal" angle. That way, our ship girls can explore historical events and topics much like us modern day folks.

Our second update happens to be one that covers the enemies of the ship girls: the abyssal fleet. Thematically, the abyssals play a very definitive "bad guy" role in Pacific. Unlike KanColle, however, this threat is extrastellar and possibly extra-dimensional in nature.

I know there are plenty of folks that would like to interpret our ship girls as fighting the sunken souls of their WWII enemies. That's fine. I'm all for that. Think of it as taking place in a Pacific splinter world. Given the higher-level physics structure of how Pacific is set up, it's entirely possible that in some dimension (perhaps the one you came up with out of your creativity) that they're just that. Vengeful spirits. Maybe even the historical Japanese fleet itself. For our personal interpretation of Pacific, however, we chose a common enemy for both the Japanese and the American (and the other) ship girls to focus on.

The artist responsible for our abyssal fleet is 司马闹腾. An art student by trade, his tireless work ethic and can-do attitude is infectious for the entire team. When he first begun his discussion about the abyssal designs with me, I suggested that he refer to real life biology as inspiration for our own abyssal fleet. And refer to real life biology he did. I only wish the students I TA'd took research as seriously as he did.

When the abyssals first attacked in 1950 (you can find more information on this in AR), you can imagine the shock and fear it caused. For starters, these things are huge. Even the smallest abyssal - loosely  referred to as "scouts" or "destroyers" often range over thirty meters. For this first sketch, Sima added himself as a reference point - you can see that the 170 cm (5'5'') Sima is tiny when standing next to the thing.

There are several important distinguishing factors about this particular abyssal that's of interest to STEC. First, given that the abyssals have yet to arrive in force, this particular abyssal is noted to be something of a scout. However, in contrast with other abyssals observed, this one appears to be comparatively armored. If attacked from the front, it is capable of shrugging off multiple SSMs. It even provides reasonable resistance to a ship girl's weapons in question.

Luckily, it is lightly armed. With only a pair of "dual purpose" guns (rather inefficient at hitting air targets, as carrier girls will tell you) and short-ranged abyssal torpedoes (two by two, bow mounted), its greatest asset is its strength in melee. So far, these scouts have been observed to prefer melee to close range combat, oftentimes only firing a few shots before charging forth with alarming speed.

Those of us familiar with vol. 1's Chester know her to be something of a prankster. The ship girl I'm about to introduce to you, however, is just as prone to practical jokes. Meet O'bannon. She's mostly designed by K9, who alongside me also dictates US policy and story structure.

Originally she's not scheduled to show up until much later, but she managed to make it into this book because we wanted to give San Francisco - another star of our book - a good friend. Not to mention this happens to be the historical ship that - out of all things - contributed to the sinking of a sub by throwing potatoes. This Fletcher-class DD not only trolled Hiei (likely to her demise) because the venerable Japanese battleship could not depress her main guns well enough to hit it, but happens to be one of the few ships that saw as much as action as the USS Maury.

One funny thing, though, is that O'bannon's hairstyle went through a lot of revisions. Those of you who saw her sketch know that she first had the double-odongo/sailor moon type hair. We ended up choosing something else because we didn't want her to be typecasted or shoehorned into one particular character interpretation. Not to mention, I personally think that with how she's written and her relationships, giving her short hair makes a lot of sense.

A lot of folks have suggested that she carries something to symbolize the original marine, O'bannon, who is still to today regarded as a hero of the UMSC. The mameluke sword was an idea that K9 had when we first decided to draw her. A few other things of note include, in no particular order:
  • Unlike Maury, whose equipment isn't at all visible, O'bannon's ship girl "gear" is clearly something closer to standardized equipment. This is to highlight an aspect of her characterization - as a nod to history, USS O'bannon was one of the many Fletchers produced during WWII. We want to set her apart from Maury, who's closer to a mecha prototype if we're talking anime-like inspirations.
  • Her red hair speaks to her personality but also to history. The historical O'bannon had - depending on artistic depiction - reddish brown to brown hair. Considering that O'bannon was of Irish descent, the ginger-ness fits. Plus, it fits her personality.
  • Her hair-pin says "CAN DO", which is a triple reference. Her ship's emblem, of course, is a green four-leafed clover with the phrase "Can do" written on it. Her crew's unofficial motto was also that, and it just so happens that the can-do attitude is prevalent across USN destroyers as a whole.
  • Given that we make it a point of pride to make our ship girls unique (let's just say that if we ever make an RPG-TBS hybrid, we gotta give the players a reason to use them), we chose to focus on O'bannon's fighting style. If Maury's Captain America (complete with acrobatics), O'bannon's a classic comedy brawler. Think Jackie Chan in Rush Hour. Anything O'bannon can get her hands on she can weaponize. In fact, the abyssal learned that the the worst thing they could do when running into her is causing environmental damage. O'bannon's plenty deadly already. Trust me, the abyssals really don't want to see what happens when she picks up a ladder or a towel or half a coconut...

You'll have probably noticed a backlog of updates. That's because, well, I'm only one woman. xD While I have an amazing team working beside me, I admit freely that translation tends to be the biggest hurdle between us and getting stuff to you for your enjoyment.

Today, however, I'd like to talk about fairies. Fairies are a wonderful addendum to KanColle, and it's no surprise that our fairies play similar roles. That being said, however, they are not ubiquitous throughout all works - in fact, the Kagero light novels seem to go without them.

In brief, Pacific fairies are unusual miniature lifeforms that seem to appear around ship girls. They are distinctive entities, do not appear to rely on a ship girl for its inherent survival, and for all intent and purposes possess their own range of extraordinary powers.

STEC scientists have been tearing their hairs out in an attempt to make sense of fairies in general. The biggest problem is that while they are clearly human to some degree, the way in which they think or operate is often beyond human comprehension. Add the fact that fairies seem to communicate in its own language - which, while fully intelligible to ship girls is gibberish to humans - and that they seem to phase in and out of existence at will, you can imagine the difficulty in trying to study them in a systematic fashion.

After all, most fairies aren't ship girls. If you ask Jer nicely for a hair sample or to do some anthropomorphic measurements she'd be fine with it. Trying to get fairies to follow your orders is like trying to reason with puppies. It often just ... doesn't work.

That being said, STEC has loosely categorized fairies based on their approximate function. These are the types known so far.

"Standard" type fairies are very commonly seen. Usually clad in USN work uniforms or its trademark blue overalls, you can generally find large groups of them around places where there are ship girls. They are by far the most "uncommunicative" fairies, as each seems to have specific tasks in mind and tend to not pay attention to humans very much. On an average day you'll find these little guys milling about, refining materials, repairing equipment (sometimes repairing your, the admiral's, equipment - STEC hasn't had a TV failure since its inception, for instance), building stuff, gathering food, napping, and so on.

"Specialist" type fairies are less common, but are common enough that if you see a group of fairies, you're almost expected to see a few of these. These fairies have clear, visible physical features that sets them apart from their more "ordinary" counterparts, are capable of a greater range of behaviors and emotions, and are "social" in the sense that they are oftentimes actively seen interacting with each other, their ship girls, and the various STEC personnel around.

Most fairies of this type appear to have some designated role, and can often be easily distinguished by their dress. A fairy armed with multi-tools and wearing a maintenance crew's vest is probably a carrier maintenance fairy. A fairy strutting around in service dress might be a fire control officer. Pilot gear? Probably a pilot fairy. Cook's bonnet, apron, often seen hovering around the kitchen? Probably a steward fairy.

"Unique" fairies are exactly what they say on the tin. To be classified as one of these, STEC uses the following parameters. Unique fairies are able to communicate with humans normally, are considerably more powerful (some displaying a range of powers that are impressive), and possess a definitive, concrete sense of identity (i.e. is self-aware). As expected, these only number a handful in the setting so far.

Unlike the ship girls, unique fairies claim to be historical figures. Without exception these fairies introduce themselves as who they "appear" to be - e.g. Enterprise's Butch O'Hare.

STEC cannot verify the veracity of these claims to historicity, and the scholars and researchers within STEC itself is horribly divided in terms of just what these fairies actually are. Is, for instance, the stern Lt. Cmdr Moosbrugger occasionally seen peeking out from Maury's pockets actually Frederick Moosbrugger? Is it actually Moosbrugger, or is it a "copy" of him? What does "copy" even mean? If so, how'd he get here? Is it just an imprint of him? Some kind of psionic memory? Is the fairy just taking on an identity that suits him or herself? If it isn't him, how does the fairy fool over a hundred independent investigations, where every single person tested (correctly) identified recording of the fairy's message as the admiral, some revealing personal or intimate details? How is it that the fairy is able to instinctively connect with their "real" counterparts?

Of course, STEC has no answers to these questions yet. We, as writers, however, do. I look forward to uncovering more fairy lore with you in the future. ;)

An out of universe note: The fairy pilots from Aeronautica are gender-bent versions of their historical ace pilots drawn from a separate timeline/reality independent of whatever the source for Pacific's ship girls and fairies may be. Thus, in-universe, both Evelyn O'Hare and Butch O'Hare exists. They just haven't met each other yet.

This, of course, is an example of a fairy that will be appearing in Pacific 2. Meet Admiral Charles Momsen.

Known as the inventor of the Momsen lung, Momsen was historically known for a few things, almost all related to submarines. Saving the USS Squalus, commanding a successful USN submarine wolfpack, and ultimately becoming commander of the Submarine Forces Pacific before his retirement.

Of course, the particular version of him that appeared with Sculpin happens to be Momsen as a high ranking officer*. Grumbling that he no longer had the back he used to (after all, Momsen dove after a live torpedo in training once just to figure out what's wrong), he typically provides his experience and insights to sub girls at base. However, Momsen has a group of fairies whose focus appears to be on deep sea rescue with all manners of specialized equipment. While STEC is thankful that no sub girls have been lost or severely injured in the line of duty, the presence of Momsen is reassuring to both the sub girls and command.

*The reason why this is starred is because at least one unique fairy has appeared at a significant deviation to what would typically be expected. Previously hypothesized to be "heroic" versions of historical characters at the height of their careers, STEC is confounded by the appearance of Captain King, who acts as a bridge officer for Lexington. Despite his historical counterpart's impressive list of accomplishments, Cpt. King appears to have no further recollections, memories, or experiences post April 1933.

Since I thought some of Caterwaul's questions are great, I thought I'd straight-up FAQ them instead.

How independent is STEC?

STEC is most certainly independent enough - it currently runs its own infrastructure (much like say, NMOTC or even the Marines) and technically falls under OPTEVFOR - though the nature of its creation basically means that it's a separate organization and received separate funding independent of all of these branches. This is why, by the way, when you look at earlier drafts of Pacific lore (pre-STEC days), OPTEVFOR is sometimes referenced.

(我给出的例子是NMOTC(海军医学院,比较小的组织)和海军陆战队)。严格来说,STEC是跟OPTEVFOR(海军测试开发部,测试兵器用的),但它的资金以及人事则从不同部门而来。

Are the girls spread out to the various fleets as needed or do they have their own, separate organizational unit?

STEC commands all USN ship girls. The "hub" or "CENTCOM" that Lex refers to is whoever heads Avalon base, a mobile island fortress generally located around the Pacific ocean.

Heck, do the girls even have actual ranks? I'm assuming they'd have something equivalent to a Warrant rank so that it takes special permission to actually order one around (Which would allow you to keep the Admiral thing from Kancolle if you really wanted)

Yes and no. For instance, given the earlier days of STEC, Iowa and Jer has actual ranks. Most of the ship girls these days don't, given the unique infrastructure of STEC's operations.

Jer's a commodore (captain, by technical definitions). Mike Yin, the commander of Avalon base, is currently a rear admiral.

Kinda interested in how Enterprise launches her planes, now that she doesn’t summon them via bow anymore. Does the deck rotate up to shoulder level? Visually what does it look like now when an CV based ship girl launches her complement...do they have a full process of emulating an actual carrier, with fairies filling the roles of humans or is it a more mystical process, like with the various Omyouji based carriers from Kancolle and their shikigami? Maybe it’s a bit of both?

This needs November to draw a sketch, but I'd like to say that the decision to forgo summoning by bow thing is a personal preference and a development within the last three months after deciding to make things more realistic. I won't get upset if other people depicting crossbow bolts or bullets turning into planes, but it makes more sense for me, from a thematic perspective, for the carrier deck to actually function as something useful. Otherwise, why would you lug it around? And our ship girls are carrying a "flight deck" with a lot of volume - that's got to be holding something.

Personally, I prefer to depict launches and so forth as one that is realistic. The more "mythical" processes I think is best saved for cinematic moments or those that are important to the storyline.

Who's actually making the rigging, or does it pop into existance when a ship girl is created? I'm assuming STEC itself either doesnt make it by themselves, or it's a difficult process because otherwise they wouldnt need ship girls to fight the Abyss off.

This is classified.

Off the top of my head, I'm assuming fairies or Ship girls with a more engineering/repair based focus are pretty critical to the process. Are thev arious 'damaged' artwork we see now and then from November considered canon, or is that just a playful holdover from his earlier fanart? You've mentioned a protective field, so it could go either way.

The damaged artworks are a playful holdover from his earlier fanart, yes, but I wouldn't say they're not canon. After all, think of the various outfits worn as something closer to a superheroine's costume. While it's true that the "field" is generated by the ship girls themselves (part of the "soft" sci-fi parts of our setting), the clothing obviously play a role as well.

Is there a specific age limit to who can show up? I'm not talking about the girls’ apparent age but that of the ship she's based on. Is it possible to see any girls who are based on ships who were sunk before WWII started?

I cannot speak for the team, but I have no plans to write ship girls that don't fall within WWII. However, Kaga does have a "half-sister", Tosa, so you could ask Sune that if you're curious.

If you're open to suggestions, I'd like to see the heraldic dolphins from the Submarine Warfare Insignia worked into a couple of them, maybe a later tech addition.

This is a neat idea, and we're always open to suggestions.

The hidden spoiler unit was very neat. I would like to see more like that when you guys can get around to showing off the Abyss more often. Are they going to become better known to STEC in general?

Technically, you guys (readers) and I (writer) are all STEC. So, yes, of course. I'm actually going to end my note with a note straight from Sima.

- Abyssal surface strike cruiser, assault type.

Over 110 meters long, this abyssal we have categorized nominally as a "cruiser" type, as it seems to act as leaders for nearby scouts and destroyers. STEC has observed that this particular abyssal leads the charge, which is why it is nominally classified as an "assault type." While it is heavily armored, its relatively light gun complement means that again, it is extremely vulnerable to air attacks.

In contrast to the scout destroyers encountered so far, this is clearly a combat unit. STEC notes with alarm that the abyssals seem to possess some form of regenerative/bioactive armor, and in dire contrast to the scouts, the armor of these abyssals regenerates faster, are denser (based on impact observations), and considerably thicker.

Primary armament: nominally classified as "6.1''/60". Estimated firing rate: approximately 20/min. Based on ship girl observation, likely possess switchable ammunition which may include HEAT, AP, HE, or others.

Has not been observed to fire under water.

- While the "muscular" structure of the abyssal is very similar to many mammals, STEC biologists are flabbergasted at how dense and powerful it actually is. This particular abyssal, during charge, easily breaks 40 knots, and its powerful muscles can tear apart all but the most heavily armored warships in seconds.

Because abyssal "corpses" decompose at an extremely rapid rate, all evidence comes from ship girl eyewitness accounts and video evidence. STEC is aware that the internal composition of the abyssal appears to be largely mechanical in nature, but an unknown blue substance is observed to be housed between what seems to be torpedo tubes and an extremely armored "shell." Theorized to be a biological component of the abyssals, the blue substance appears to be both responsible for the abyssal unit's actions, but also seems to "flow" into structures to cauterize wounds and enact self-repair.

Sima's design notes:

"I want to make multiple versions of the light cruisers, too. Right now this is just the base for my ideas. Later on, I want to give them all kinds of goodies - psychological warfare items, anti-aircraft cruisers, etc. What I thought was rather simple for the role of this abyssal. It's big, right? Bigger than the destroyers, so obviously it's heavily armored and armed. Given that our abyssal destroyers engage the enemy in swarms, this one should be leading the way. Of course, it's got a low number of guns, so like the destroyer scouts, it's very poor against air units."

Hi Commander! United States Ship-girl Marblehead, reporting for duty! Do you know what happens when you witness a ship wreck?

... You let it sink in! Hahahaha! Geddit?

Aww, alright. I'll work on my delivery. See, commander, I'd blame that on the Omaha class, but I don't think "can't tell a joke to save life" can be blamed on historical design flaws. Sure, we've got comparatively low firepower and armor, but our speed's great! We also carry torpedoes like those other cruiser girls, too. Maybe I should've been a destroyer. What, low endurance? Commander I thought you men liked the whole delicate-maiden-fainting-into-big-strong-arms-thing...

Yes, sir, just stop Marblehead if her imagination's running too wild. Heh. I uh, like to tell stories. I also like to write 'em down. Part of what makes me unique, I guess. You've read the historical USS Marblehead. Was it a myth-making moment when Roosevelt told our tale to the country in one of his fireside chats? Sure. Was it real? Yup. That's what makes it so awesome. The Asiatic Fleet had one thing in excess, and that was men with balls.

Balls.

Commander I'm serious. We gotta write this stuff down! There's an old saying about people who forget history. I don't remember how it went, but it was good!

----------------
STEC notes that the historical USS Marblehead was an Omaha-class light cruiser. As newer cruiser designs rapidly entered service, USS Marblehead eventually settled down with the Asiatic Fleet. When hostiles commenced with Japan on December 7th, she was the third largest ship by displacement in place to defend a rapidly untenable allied front in south Asia.

February 4,  1942, two US cruisers - including USS Marblehead - were heavily damaged by Japanese air attack. The allies would ultimately lose access to the Makassar strait, allowing Japan to tighten their encirclement of the Dutch East Indies. While USS Houston would soldier on and ultimately meet her demise at Sunda Strait, USS Marblehead was deemed too damaged to go on with the ABDA fleet. She retreated to South Africa for repairs before ultimately arriving home to New York. On May 4th, when she finally steamed into Brooklyn Navy Yard, she had sailed more than 16,000 miles from where she was damaged. Of those 16,000 miles, more than 9,000 miles were carried out with a destroyed rudder - the men of the USS Marblehead steered by adjusting her boilers at different speeds.

The determination and courage of her men did not go unnoticed, however, and the tale of the USS Marblehead was featured prominently in one of Roosevelt's fireside chats. Five months later, the rebuilt and rebuilt USS Marblehead would return to service, mostly in the Atlantic. Between convoy duty and the liberation of France, Marblehead earned two battle stars prior to her retirement. In time, her ship's bell would return to the city and rest in Abbot Hall.

Erudite, talkative, if a little awkward, Marblehead is an inquisitive young woman who enjoys making other people laugh with her terrible puns and jokes. STEC recommends that she be kept to backline roles until research develops breakthroughs in Omaha-class ship girl weaponry. While the quality of her writing ranges from good to terrible (she admits freely that she loves to tell stories no matter what they are), her habitual documentation of everything that interest her and natural gift for record-keeping makes her a fairly talented logistics officer.

--------------------
Design notes:

"Let's go for a walk. I love a good book as much as the great outdoors, but you just can't beat that morning smell!"

- When Marblehead (Mar-mar? Marble?) was written, we focused on the city of Marblehead itself as part of our inspiration. An idyllic, nice small town with a lot of greenery and scenery, November got into his head immediately that this girl was going to have "Mori-garu" elements in her design.

"Oh, I just put those heels on to look pretty. We going somewhere, commander? Let me put on something appropriate. Should I change out of this dress, too? Been awhile since I had a pair of pants made. Maybe I should go visit Helena - you know she's actually got a good selection of fabrics to boot, right? BOOT? GEDDIT? Hahaha~"

- Marble enjoys the outdoors and likes to read and write, yes, but it doesn't mean that she's forgoing the parts of her that makes her feminine. You'll find that one thing not particularly PC about Pacific is that the girls come from all spectrums of perspectives and views. As their creator, I believe it's my obligation to craft diversity in their personalities without forcing some aspect of social agenda.

"This signature's a forgery. I'm sure of it. You can see it from the ink blotches here. If this really is [classified], then why would his hand be pausing or shaking when signing his own name?"

- [STORY CONTEXT, CLASSIFIED UNDER AUTHORITY OF STEC.]

(Marble's got an eye for the arts, as I've mentioned above. Her penchant to pay attention to detail often allows her to pick up details that other ship girls might have missed.)

"Uuugh. You know I can't use these things to save my life, commander! I thought if I ... well, tied them together, maybe it'll work better!"

- The historical USS Marblehead was built with 10 torpedo tubes in mind as a part of her original design (Two triple, and two double mountings). However, let's just say that bureaucracy sort of put a dent in that plan, and it was found that the Omaha class really couldn't operate with that many arms in mind. Marble's art in Pacific will have triple launchers - her historical loadout - to reflect this point. However, let's be frank. The historical Marblehead didn't hit anything with them in WWII.

"When this war is over, commander, you're coming home with me. I'll build us a little place by the docks and you can go fishing all day. We'll need a large yard, too. Something big enough for clam-bakes. Ooh! Do you think we can go to Abbot's? It would be so, so romantic if they could ring Marblehead III's bells for us on our big day..."

- Believe it or not, for many American young women, marriage is a priority. Marble, with her runaway imagination and an innate talent at organization, would probably be very good at planning weddings (including her own). Whether or not she's teasing, however, is an entirely different story. Though STEC must comment that for a ship girl, construction really isn't much of a problem at all - when she says she'll "build" you, the commander a "little place," she probably meant, "I'll do it myself."

Clam-bakes are a thing for native New Englanders. As for Abbot's? It's Marblehead (the town)'s town hall, which just happens to house an amazing number of arts and artifacts, especially those pertaining to the navy.

Just what the heck are the girls looking at?

What you're seeing right there is a reference to Naval Base Avalon. A state of the art floating fortress, capable of slowly relocating around the globe should the need arise. Most of STEC's ship girls consider it to be their literal home. The commander (your avatar, or the player character) is in command of this particular asset. Thematically, STEC names all of its bases after mythological landmasses. The symbolism of Avalon being a sanctuary as well as the final resting place for one of mankind's legendary protectors - King Arthur - is not lost on the designers.

Avalon runs on a combination of science and magic. Much of its capabilities seem supernatural in nature, and scientists do not yet understand how or why it can do what it does. That being said, however, Pacific's world setting does attempt to be "hard" whenever possible, and so while Avalon base itself possess very "magical" abilities, these powers are systematic in nature, and it is STEC's hope that one day they can get down to the bottoms of exactly how the naval base functions in the first place.

Avalon's primary defenses are the ship girls and the brave men and women manning its battle stations, yes, but much like its mythological namesake, it is capable of veiling itself from abyssal observation. The base itself seems to have a mind of its own, as whenever a threat emerges, the base generate a dense mist, cloaking it from abyssal detection. This, coupled with a powerful information network that spans the entire globe and a rapid deployment system, makes Avalon a potent weapon in the hands of humanity.

围绕着这只深海舰的Fleet Problem(美舰本专用贴游,基本上就是大家一起来讲故事)已经起航。
Sima's already commented a fair bit on the page itself, and so I'll spare you my droning commentary. Between C88, the event, and other stuff everyone's been busy.

The "Fleet Problem" involving this particular abyssal is up in the main Pacific section. If you want to be a ship girl commander, you can feel free to come check it out.

The English version of Hasler'll be posted by Sir Fong later tonight on the website.

"Morgane, I have a question. You said in Pacific that the abyssals are the "bad guys," right? Well, I want to know: how human are they?"

I'm happy to reveal our first abyssal "character". You'll see a lot more of her as I gear up Pacific's "storyline."

Sima spent more than a week working with me to conceptualize what we want to do for the abyssal characters. In our work, there is a clear separation between the values inherent to our ship girls and the enemies they face. However, given that we are human, is it not natural for the abyssal fleet to exploit our own humanity to achieve their own goals?

You'll see more of her in the next fleet problem. For now, however, I'd like to reveal one tidbit of detail.

Her armor and weapons, unlike the ship girls, are "grown" organically from her body and "hidden" when convenient. Look at her "helmet" and how she puts it on. Whether this is a technological or magical phenomena is up to debate, but this ability could potentially translate into a worrying phenomena. Should other abyssals possess this ability, STEC will have to face scenarios where abyssals could - in theory - deploy appropriate countermeasures at a moment's notice while remaining relatively inconspicuous in terms of the equipment that is carried.
